Materuni village is about 15 km from Moshi and is the last village before Kilimanjaro National Park and home of Chagga tribe. From Arusha, the trip takes about 2 hours. The Waterfall is about a 40 minute walk from the starting point.
The views are breathtaking, and you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro’s summit, during the walk the guide will share stories and info about flora, fauna and village culture. The waterfalls is 80 meters height and the natural pool at the base is perfect for a refreshing swim. The adventurous can get close to the waterfall and experience the force of the water (like a small hurricane effect). Back to the village you can experience a traditional Chagga lunch and taste local banana beer. After lunch, it’s time for the coffee experience. You’ll learn how coffee is cultivated, dried, roasted, and processed. You’ll even get the chance to help grind the coffee beans, traditionally done while singing and dancing.
